PORTABLE
FOUNDRY WHEELS
Saint-Gobain Abrasives has introduced
Norton BlueFire™ portable zirconia alu-
minum foundry wheels for the metal fab-
ricating industry. According to the man-
ufacturer, the snagging cup wheels
reduce grind time more than 40 percent
and increase G-ratio by almost 130 per-
cent compared to conventional zirconia
products in foundries, welding shops,
fabrication facilities, steel mills, and
shipyards.
The friable zirconia alumina grain and
resin bond technologies provide high metal
removal rates and enable the grain to stay
sharp and free-cutting for increased wheel
life on high- and medium-pressure applications, the company states.
The wheels are suitable for steel, iron,
and graphite applications such as removing gates and risers, flaws, and cracks from
workpieces; smoothing weld seams; cleaning castings; and rough beveling.

WELDING
INSPECTION SYSTEM
Servo-Robot has
introduced the Wiki-Scan hand-held wireless system for welding inspection. The
laser-based tool can
measure part fit-up before welding to help
ensure that the joint preparation meets
procedure requirements.
It provides a 3-D scan of joints and
weld beads, measuring them for features
such as size, porosity, and undercut. These
results can be augmented with a picture of
the weld, voice recording, and comments
saved directly to the unit. All records can
be filtered by date and by fulfillment of
standards and tolerance limits.
